Fusil, that's the second or third time the GM has used that term "funny" in reference to your friend. Something is fishy here and your "subconscious mind" ;) is trying to tell you that! I recommend we investigate... something "untoward" may have happened to him!

I'll just leave this here:

S7, page 34

An important aspect of the ship is its interior layout; the ship was designed
at a time when mutinies were a major threat to security. As a result, major bulkheads
break up the ship into distinct areas - some for crew members, some for
officers, and some common to both.

S7 is Traders and Gunboats, just something that crossed my mind when Fusil said the navy doesn't have to concern itself with security.

Oh, okay, gotcha. But the Gazelle is an ancient design from way the hell back. :D

GM, can the crew remove the contents of the cells, and then cut away the partition walls, using the equipment we have?

If so, then we'll schedule to do that work after we do our shakedown orbit and have landed again. At that point, Elliott will shop for the new items . He'll shop both online, and will do any "in person" shopping with a wingman attending (probably Greg) so he doesn't go out alone and can't be caught flat-footed by the wrong local elements. How much would he need to spend to get the makings of a commons area for the passengers? (Lounge convertible to common eating area.)
