I assume Zhenya is asking a monk? They will answer, "There will be an election by the members of the monastery, those who have been in the order for at least ten years. Brother Dylan, as the Master of Martial Arts and Philosophy, is most likely to be successor."

Zhenya notes the official line being rolled out and, once Jeleel is out of earshot, comments:

Politics color everything now, only two short years after a conflagration that has turned the face of humanity. Delegations from the Celestial Imperium have visited many organizations, some offering the olive branch, others demanding their pound of flesh.
